Announcing Special-Lite’s New President and COO

Special-Lite, Inc. announces a once-in-a-generation change of company leadership. Effective September 4, 2018, Kurk M. Wilks assumes the title and role of company President and Chief Operating Officer. Former President and COO, Kevin J. Hanley, moves to a consulting role at this time and will retire at the end of 2018 though he will remain on the Board of Directors.
Mr. Wilks comes to Special-Lite with an extensive B2B background, primarily in the automotive arena. Most recently he served as Vice President and Managing Director OE Americas for the MANN-HUMMEL Group. Here, he led the company to tremendous growth across North and South America in the Original Equipment business unit.
To Special-Lite, Kurk brings familiar values including a focus on people and a focus on growth. He has a passion for quality and a commitment to safety. He is charged with building on the foundation of Special-Lite acquisitions, expanded product offerings, and significant market penetration.
According to Henry Upjohn II, Special-Lite Chairman and CEO, “In his most recent position at MANN-HUMMEL, Kurk directly oversaw the work of over 1,000 associates and was responsible for approximately $500 million of revenue. His passion for growth, along with his values, comparable to our own, made Kurk an easy choice among the candidates we considered. I am confident that adding his talents to our own will enable Special-Lite to achieve significant new heights.”
Mr. Wilks resides in Portage, Michigan, is married and has two children.
