In hurricane and other windstorm-prone regions, three factors influence the performance of exterior doors:
Impact resistance (due to windborne debris)
Air pressure changes

Thus, testing of building products for these criteria becomes essential for peace of mind. At Special-Lite, we’ve had our doors tested to the most rigorous standards. This includes the Florida Building Code(FBC) designation for high-velocity hurricane zones (HVHZ) as well as the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) requirements for hurricane-rated products.
Such testing considers specific sizes of doors as well as specific included hardware and glazing. Therefore, no blanket statement of compliance can be made for every potential door configuration.
Nevertheless, nearly every model of Special-Lite door has been tested and found to comply with these requirements. This includes our FRP/Aluminum hybrid doors, our aluminum doors, and our fiberglass doors. Both single and double doors have been tested in inswing and outswing modes.
